Today I’ll be sharing our top ceremony locations in Iceland, perfect for an idyllic Destination Wedding or Elopement in Iceland.
Something that sets Iceland apart from the rest of the Wedding world is its ceremony locations & that you can get married anywhere on the island. ANYWHERE! As long as you’ve got permission from the land owner, you can say I do wherever your Icelandic dreams take you. And if you use a specialist Iceland Wedding Planner like Amulet Events you’ll know that everything you imagined will become reality. We have lots of contacts to negotiate your ideal ceremony, so the land of fire and ice is your oyster!
Decisions, decisions…do you go for an outdoor wedding in the wilderness in the midst of Iceland’s dramatic landscapes, or a traditional ceremony in an iconic Icelandic church? Here are a few ideas for your perusal:
Reynisfjara
Look into your partner’s eyes and exchange vows in a shallow cave on this beautiful black sand beach. Experience its volcanic black sand, striking basalt columns, and geometrically fascinating basalt formations. Have your epic wedding photography on the beach – just watch out for the bizarre waves!

Oddi Church
We love this romantic red-roofed white church, one of the oldest on the island and a mere stone’s throw from Hotel Rangá. Experience spectacular views of the horizon from Oddi Church, particularly at sunset, with the skies lit up in all their glory, the moon highlighting the mountains in the distance.

The inside of the church is so sweet too, and the perfect setting for a traditional, intimate family wedding.

Go chasing waterfalls…
Why not have your ceremony with a waterfall as the backdrop to your vows? In peak season, the waterfalls of Iceland can be hectic with tourists, but with the expertise of a planner like Nadia, you can say “I do” in an idyllic location with no onlookers. Can you imagine anything more romantic? Choose from the spectacular Skógafoss or Godafoss, Kvernufoss, Seljalandsfoss or Gluggafoss, which are all open to the public, however there are a great many other private and secret locations too! You just need a Wedding Planner who’s in the know!

Ægissíðuhellir
If you’re looking to have a wedding with a difference, you could go for a Nordic mythology theme and hold your ceremony in this beautiful underground cavernous venue, Ægissíðuhellir. Located outside the village of Hella (which is 10 min drive from Hotel Rangá) this man-made cave from approximately 800 AD is believed to have been carved by Irish monks, Papar, who took residence in Iceland before the Norseman inhabited the island.

Búðakirkja
On the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, there’s a stunning black church where you can have a traditional ceremony with a priest. The church is also conveniently located next to the luxurious Hótel Búðir so guests don’t have to travel far to see you get married! The black church is incredibly iconic, and makes for the most beautifully humble and stark architectural wedding photography especially when justapositioned with a soft bridal gown and faux fur to keep warm!
