Are you thinking of a Winter Destination Wedding & looking for some top tips? You’ve chosen to have a destination wedding, and now you’re wondering how on earth your wedding will be a stand-out event, and not a non-descript hotel abroad event. Well, never fear, Amulet is here! We love planning weddings in cooler climates – my favourites are Iceland and Lapland – and we know what works and how to make your special day totally amazing and unique.
We love Winter Weddings. There’s something incredibly romantic about seeing a bride and groom walking through a winter wonderland. Here are some five of our top tips for weddings in cooler climates, from those in the know!
Create a super cosy atmosphere
There are plenty of ways to make your reception an inviting space. Candles create an ethereal glow right from the start of your celebrations. For a little extra ambience, try adding in luxe soft textures; picture velvet ribbon napkin ties, or chenille pillows and cashmere throws in a cosy lounge area with a roaring open fire. There are some great ideas for making your wedding a snuggly one here.

Wear some Winter Wonder…
The ideal wedding dress for cooler climates is super-stylish with practical elements to keep you toasty. The lower temperatures in your destination might justify a long-sleeved gown, or heavier, more luxurious materials, or you might opt for a short dress, paired with some chic tights or stockings (no chilblains please!).

If you have already got your eye on the perfect dress, and it’s an elegant bandeau or spaghetti-strapped dress, then keep your shoulders under wraps when you’re outside with a gorgeous faux fur cover-up, or a stylish leather jacket. Whatever your style – there are so many options for brides!

Hair and make-up
You can incorporate the cooler weather into your hair and make-up without looking like an ode to Christmas. Sumptuous reds and rich greens work beautifully with ivory tones – whether that’s the shade of our lipstick or a crown of white flowers and red berries. For the more adventurous bride, you could incorporate small ornaments into your headpiece or veil, with little nods to your amazing destination.

The Flowers
Red roses, calla lilies, and amaryllis are the go-to winter wedding flowers, but we would suggest you step outside the floral “box”, and discover a spectacular variety of options for winter blooms. We love fuller flowers, such as white hydrangeas or larger varieties of antique roses. For buttonholes, choose something that fits the theme, and add some seasonal greenery; or include a locally recognised plant works really well, like thistles or corn. Remember that you can be creative and choose flowers that express your personalities and your destination.

Cocktail Hour
There’s nothing like a warm cocktail to bring a bit of fun and cosiness to your wedding. They’re such comforting drinks. You can’t go wrong with a luxurious hot chocolate – consider having a DIY bar where guests can pimp their mugs with marshmallows and cream.

Or opt for a delicious warm apple cider or rich mulled wine, served with cinnamon sticks for a bit of spice! However, it’s your wedding – why not take every opportunity to add an element of surprise? Serve up white hot chocolate in dinky espresso cups or eggnog in little punch glasses on arrival at your venue.
