Today we’re sharing our top Wedding Activities in Iceland, perfect for your adventure Wedding or Elopement in this gorgeous country. When your guests are travelling the globe to come and watch you get married, they’ll be hoping for more than just a night in a hotel and a banquet. They probably want to make the most of the experience of being in an awesome country like Iceland. So why not help them create some phenomenal memories by booking some adventures? It’s a great way for the group to get to know each other before your big day, and if they’re already well-acquainted, it will provide some classic bonding time!
On our recent trip, we were thoroughly spoiled by Hotel Rangá and experienced the most extraordinary glacial escapades & Wedding activities in Iceland with Southcoast Adventures in the capable hands of Magnús Kristjánsson and Árni Þór Guðjónsson. Our ATV Tour was with Óbyggðaferðir, and safety was of the utmost importance, but exhilerating fun was also high on the priority list!
1. Super-Jeeping
You’ll find no better way to explore Iceland than by Super-Jeep. These amazing vehicles have been adapted to handle the rugged and varied terrain of the Icelandic wild, and are so comfortable inside! Drive up onto the volcanic slopes and navigate the frozen glaciers, like we did on our visit to Hotel Ranga.
So much fun in a big group, and you can choose from a variety of packages to fit in with your wedding schedule. We were in the safest of hands with Magnus and co from Southcoast Adventures, and you can see so much of this incredible landscape in just a day travelling in one of their Super-Jeeps!
2. Dive into the Blue Lagoon
Bring your nearest and dearest to this exquisite location for some much-needed pre-wedding R&R! Bathe in the geothermal lagoon, where the water originates from 2km below the earth’s surface, and where freshwater and seawater combine at extreme temperatures to create a naturally super-relaxing experience for you. The geothermal water has a unique composition, featuring three active ingredients – Silica, Algae & Minerals. The Blue Lagoon is an unmissable experience for any wedding party!
3. Quadbiking across lava fields
If you’re a bride with no fear, grab a snow suit, a helmet and some ski-gloves, and jump on the back of a quad bike! And bring the rest of the party with you. These machines are phenomenal – safely guiding you across the rocky lava fields, you’ll be able navigate the wilderness easily.
Look out for Icelandic horses beyond the ice-rivers and humps, and in summer months you’ll be able to see a whole range of Iceland’s wild nature from flowers to birdlife!
We crossed icy ravines and snowy lava fields, and stopped for lunch in a man-made cave from 800AD! A magnifiscent feast of infamous Icelandic hotdogs – all cooked on a mesmerising campfire!
4. Geyser gazing
Take a trip to these phenomenal geothermal wonders and watch in awe as they bubble and explode spectacularly into the air! The geysers at Bláskógabyggð, Arnessysla are beautifully intriguing and quite hypnotic. It’s fascinating to observe the bubbling and the suck back just before the eruption, and to try and time your photography to catch the perfect shot! This is perhaps an adventure for your guests who aren’t able to quadbike, as it’s accessible and there’s a lovely visitor centre too.
5. Seljalandsfoss
60 metres high and with a footpath behind it at the bottom of the cliff, Seljalandsfoss is perfect for adding drama and an element of fun to your wedding experience. You can walk behind the cascade, and the photos are filled with rainbows and romance! Your guests can hike up the footpath and explore behind the waterfall for the ultimate Icelandic foss activity.
These are just a few ideas of what your wedding party could get up to during their stay in Iceland! This country is beyond breathtaking, and there’s so much to see and do. If you’ve got children (or restless adults!) in the party, they’ll never get bored.
