You dream is to say your wedding vows standing in the most beautiful location you can imagine. And having a photographer to capture your special adventure is something you know is very important to you.
You want a photographer whose work you love. But you also want a photographer who is going to do a great job and capture your memories so that you can relive your wedding day for many years to come.
There is a lot of generic advice out there about how to choose a wedding photographer, but as I’ve learned as an adventure wedding blogger, not all photographer’s are up to the challenge that adventure weddings can bring, and booking a photographer who is “learning on the job” could be a decision regret. Whilst most photographer’s would give their right arm to shoot a wedding like yours, it’s really important to choose your wedding photographer carefully.

So I’ve created a list of 5 things that you should consider before booking a photographer for your adventure wedding.
1.Do They Have Experience In Real Adventure Weddings? Adventure weddings come with their own unique sets of challenges that you might not encounter in the traditional wedding world. Knowing how to photograph a wedding in an ice chapel, working at altitude and capturing a couple skiing down a mountain are quite specific skill sets.

2.Can I See Some Real Adventure Wedding Galleries? A lot of photographer’s will not only show work from real weddings on their websites but also from workshops and styled shoots, and it might not be clear which is which. Ask them to show you some examples of real weddings that have similar demands to yours. i.e. If you’re having a snowy winter wedding, ask to see examples of other weddings in the snow.

3. Are They Outdoor Savvy & Have The Right Gear? Many adventure wedding photographers are adventurers during their free time too. They know how to dress and what gear they need to pack for a full day out in the wilderness, and they understand how to conduct themselves “out in the wild”. If you’re not sure, a good thing to do is Facebook or Insta-stalk them. If their website tells you they live for adventure and their social media suggests they spend more time in the city, they might not be be quite suited for the job.

4. Do You Connect With Them Personally? This is important for all wedding photography, but even more so for adventure weddings, since often the whole day is just you and them.

5. Do You Love Their Work So whilst it’s really important to make sure the photographer is up to the task of accompanying you on your adventure, you also need to love the work that they produce. Having a photographer who has climbed Everest is great, but if you don’t feel a connection with their images, they might not be quite the right fit. But with so many amazingly talented photographers out there, you will find the right one for you. And when you find them, you’ll know.
